Part Size and Left-handed Instruments

High quality part size violins, violas and cellos for talented younger players. New handmade instruments for left-handed players.

We believe that young and growing players should be able to learn on instruments that sound good, but most affordable part size instruments on the market today are shockingly bad. Parents are generally (and understandably) unwilling to spend a lot of money on something which will only be used for a couple of years, so the standard remains poor.

Our solution to this is to offer high quality new and antique ½ and ¾ instruments with a trade-in guarantee. This means that if you buy a small instrument from us and wish to upgrade after a couple of years, we will take it back and credit the full purchase price against a larger instrument. If the condition of your smaller instrument has deteriorated significantly, we will negotiate a trade-in price which is fair to you.

Small ¾ Mirecourt Stradivarius Pattern circa 1900

£950

Small ¾ Mirecourt Stradivarius Pattern circa 1900 A particularly attractive Mirecourt ¾ violin with a Stradivarius 1723 label, this instrument has the refinements of better Mirecourt work such as an inked scroll and rib corners, slightly fluted f-holes and a rich amber-brown oil varnish. The sound is bright, sweet and musical, surprisingly good for the size of the violin. More details

¾ Breton Brevete Mirecourt circa 1880

£1,500

¾ Breton Brevete Mirecourt circa 1880 This is a very good Mirecourt ¾ violin labeled Breton Brevete, sold by John Anderson of Glasgow in 1896. The violin looks rather earlier than that, but a conservative estimate would date it around 1880. Typical Breton yellow oil varnish, a lovely one-piece back – two minor repaired cracks to report, otherwise the violin is in excellent condition. The sound is unusually full for a ¾ – sweet, mellow and responsive with excellent volume; this violin would be a great choice for a gifted student. More details
