MSV80 : Guadagnini “Simpson” 1777 Cello, Completed 2013

This is a copy of the famous Guadagnini “Simpson”, one of the smallest cellos in professional use (currently played by Natalie Clein). Our intention was to produce a superb sounding instrument that would suit a smaller player – cellos have become standardized around huge Montagnana models, but there’s really no sonic requirement for such big instruments. New Handmade Instruments – Cellos

Our cello is a Stradivarius pattern instrument of manageable proportions … length of back 75.5cm, stop length 281/402mm, and a rib height of 120mm. We use only exceptional timber for these cellos, and the plates are thicknessed for optimal resonance and tonal colour. This cello has an exceptionally mature sound for a new instrument.
We are also in the process of making some copies of the Guadagnini “Simpson”, a superb cello with a back length of only 711mm. For more info and pictures of them in production look here.
